TextEdit and scroll bars..

TextEdit and scroll bars..

I'm opening text files in text edit however the data in the file extends far beyond the window, and I don't see any scroll bars...

Under the 'Format' bar, I can only 'wrap to page' or 'wrap to window'.

Is there a solution to this? or a better text editor for mac?

PowerBook G4-1GHz- 768 Mb Ram, Mac OS X (10.5.1)

You should have scroll bars. Go to ~(yourHome)/Library/Preferences/ com.apple.TextEdit.plist and delete that file then restart.
(You may have to reset some of your TextEdit preferences.)

just tried that, but i still don't have the horizontal scroll bar. (the text file i'm opening is a .tsv file - if that matters.)

There is no horizontal scroll bar. It should also wrap now. It may be the formatting of the file type your're using - .tsf. Open a new file and test. Try filling the window with text beyond it's boundaries.
Does it wrap?

yes, the text wraps, but that's what I don't want it to do. i have a file with data in it that is in hundreds of columns. but the text automatically wraps even though i have not checked the 'wrap automatically' preference. the file is displayed fine my friends windows (gasp) text editor.

Then, you'll have to use something else, such as BBEdit. TextEdit doesn't expand horizontally. However, if you make its window narrower than the text, you'll get a horizontal scroll bar.
