How Do I Get An "Applications" Icon on my Dock?

Seems like a simple thing, but when I tried it recently something went totally haywire and I thought I'd dragged my whole applications folder to the "trash" for a minute. So...

I would like to have an icon for the Applications folder on my dock, for those occasions when I want to quickly launch an App that isn't on the dock.

So, what's the trick?

Thanks,

Just drag your Applications folder to the dock, on the right side of the divider (yes, it is pretty close to the trash can, but you are using a standard account, right?).

OK, I tried that, and guess what? Applications icon went "poof" It's not in the dock, and it's not in my Finder sidebar either.

Whew, I got it back by editing the "Finder" preferences. But it ain't lookin' good for getting that icon on the dock.

Thanks,

What do you mean by "editing the Finder preferences" to get your Applications folder back?

He's dragged it from the sidebar, and this has just removed it from the sidebar rather than adding it anywhere else. Finder Prefs will allow him to reinstate it. If you want to add things to the dock you have to do it from the actual Finder window, not the sidebar.
