GOING CRAZY! HP DESKJET F4180 WONT WORK ON MY MACBOOK F4180. HP WONT HELP!

Hi - I know there have been a few posts around hp printers that wont setup on macbooks - especially the tiger 10.4.11 and the leopard. I recently purchased a deskjet f4180 from HP, because it was advertised in the apple store, and said it was compatible with mac 10.4 - it turns out its not. It wont set up properly, the mac wont recognise the model of the printer on set up, and the print function doesnt work. I spent about 2 hours with HP, to be told they wont refund me. If anyone out there has had any success with setting up and using a printer with mac 10.4.11 please let me know, as HP and Apple have been useless, and I dont want to go to the massive hassle of buying another so-called COMPATIBLE printer, and then find it wont work. I know alot of other people have been in this situation - I have been trying to sort out this printer mess for over a month, and I am going a bit stir crazy, lol!! Any recommedations for printers that will work with the macbook 10.4.11 would be VERY greatfuly recieved.

Many thanks!

macbook, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

Hey- some what the same problem. I can print and scan (sort of). the first When i try to scan a 2 page document I can only adjust the first page, then it scans whatever it wants, usually a small portion of page, then shoots out some 6.5 meg .pdf. 3 page docs are 14meg. Was on the phone w/ Hp for 35 min. when I was disconnected. Did you uninstall your other printer drivers? I had a cannon that worked great but it killed my other printer.Had to uninstall Cannon, take back, got this, now other printers work again but this one won't.
