Volume moves up down while selecting menu items

While moving the "selection" rectangle in Front Row (ie. scrolling through artist names) front row responds by properly, EXCEPT it also adjusts the volume up or down (depending on what way I am making selections). This is annoying, especially if I have a song playing, it either goes to full volume or to mute levels.. any ideas? I have already deleted the pref files in both user and root folders. That didn't help.
