Recording Music With Rock Band Drum Set

I'm almost positive that it is a game controller and not a midi controller. Someone could probably hack up some software to turn the game data to midi. If it can be done I'm sure some will. But a real midi drum kit would be much better option.

he/she is not referring to midi support. Its probably not an equitable trade off to purchase a 600 dollar (piece of junk at that price) midi drum kit for a program as crummy as garage band.

They mean to use the controller as a keyboard keypad. There are drivers to use USB xbox controllers with osx. I too am having problems with them recognizing garage band.
My xbox 360 driver pane also freezes when selected. Possible that is the root of the problem. First program I've used on osx that kills the OS when selected. The controller is "on" and available in the pref pane. But does not actually "start'

$600 can buy a very nice midi drum kit you will be able to map midi voices and they are pressure sensitive to duplicate acoustic drums.

Garageband if far from crummy, it is even use by bands such as Barenaked Ladies and Nine inch Nails.

If your not using midi you will have to map the controller to keystrokes and use musical typing to trigger the midi instruments. Even if you can find working drivers and do the mapping it may be easier to just buy a cheap midi drum controller pad from M-audio or Alesis.

I'm rocking out on my Rock Band Xbox 360 drum kit right now, recording directly into Garageband with excellent results! And at $80, it sure beats any other midi kit available.

The video tutorial shows you the two Xbox 360 controller drivers you need to install and map the drum kit to specific keys, which you can then use through the "musical typing" feature of Garageband.
