Ipod Touch wifi cannot find server? ?

Hey Everyone, I just upgraded my touch with the new January software and it worked for about a day. Since then I haven't been able to connect to the internet. It is picking up my wireless router and has a strong signal, but everytime I try a website it says "cannot find server".
I'm really confused because it was working fine until 2 days ago.
I've tried everything (forgetting the wireless connection and reconnecting, disabling the wi-fi then re-enabling it.
I dont know whats wrong. . I have a strong connection with my laptop and my desktop downstairs, its really confusing so if anyone can help it would be great! !

Thanks!

Gateway, Windows XP

I kept getting the same error. I could hook fine at my brother's house, but could not access at my own wireless. Drove me nuts! The "expert" at Apple was no help, and he suggested I bring in my Laptop, Router, etc...
Gave it one more try and found a link to Wired Gadgets. I followed their instructions and am now able to access my wi-fi!!!! Woot!!
Here is the link:

And if you're lazy:
You could fix this at your router, but this won’t help on other networks, so you may as well to this your iTouch/iPhone.

Go to Settings.
Select Wi-Fi.
Chose a network.
Select the blue arrow next to the network you are connected to.
Select DNS.
Change the IP Address to 208.67.222.222

The IP address 208.67.222.222 is a service called OpenDNS, which not only is safer, but is guaranteed to work with any network anywhere.

The Catch-22 is that you have to do this with every new Wi-Fi you pick up that doesn’t work. It’ll remember past ones, but it won’t do it to new ones. I recommend writing down the IP Address 208.67.222.222 and keeping it in your wallet for easy access.

Hopefully that solves everyones problems. Be sure to leave a comment if you have any more questions.

I just recently bought a ipod touch and i am having these problems too. I purchased a router set it up and got all the information put in my ipod touch is picking it up but when i try to go thru Safari (i took down the security access until i can get this resolved) it gives me the message "Safari can't open the page b/c it cant find the server" i read dave beaudoin's suggestion: 5- Find your router name and select it then hit the little blue arrow next to it and under DHCP make sure there are numbers in IP address - Subnet - Router - DNS (if there are no numbers in the router or DNS section then your IPT is not picking them up and you will not connect to the network)This can be caused by many things but usually it's an incompatablility with your router.
So i am wondering how to fix the incompatablility with your router??
I am confused??? Please help???

further to my earlier post:

i have just returned from a trip to switzerland where i had plenty of chance to try my touch's wi-fi.

at heathrow, it picked up several commercial networks in the departure lounge. mysteriously, none were secured??? and it logged onto T mobile at once and i could browse the internet, receive/send mail no problem at all.

at my hotel, i logged on to the swisscomm wi-fi network, paid up, and was able to access the net. this also worked fine.

on return at zurich airport, there were 2 networks available: Public Free Wi-Fi and a commercial web gateway to pay networks simply listed as "Any".

free network was accessible, with plenty of signal, but i got the "unable to find server" routine. there was no Router or DNS listed in the Touch's wi fi screen.

the commercial network appeared to work fine. the correct entries appeared in the Touch's config screen, and had i put my hand in my pocket, i'm confident i could have got net access.

it would seem any problem is not so much with the ipod, as a compatability with certain systems. unfortuately, far too many in my experience.

I have the linksys WRT54G v6 and was able to connect to the wireless network but got the same "cannot find server" error. Once I installed the latest update for my router's firmware the problem was solved.

However regarding problems with free wi-fi networks Wikipedia says the following:

"The iPod touch is equipped with Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, and, like the iPhone, includes the Safari browser and a viewing client for YouTube. The device's Wi-Fi capabilities can also be used to buy music from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store. Like the iPhone, the iPod touch does not support the 802.1x authentication method, making connectivity to some business, college/university, personal, and hospital networks impossible. The iPod touch 2.0 Software Update will reportedly support 802.1x authentication."

*Ok go to your WI-FI settings and if you are already connected to a wireless point then click to the right of your desired connection to bring up Ip address info e.c.t then choose the tabs at the top first click DHCP and scroll down and put your http proxy onto auto then scroll back up and do the same for the BOOTP tab and the STATIC tab then it should work.*

I feel like i want to slit my wrists.... actually just me left wrist, i will not be able to slit the other one because i probably wont be able to hold the knife.

Everytime i try to connect through wi-fi i get that tormenting line, 'Safari can't open this page because it cant find the server'.The annoing thing is it is actually connected to the network, apparantly, but no server... I bought this off Laskys.com for £182.00, The V2 touch. (June)

I tried the safari and the youtube at a resturant, the other day and it worked like a dream. I think it only worked because the network was unlocked.... My Belkin at home is locked. Even though i entered the correct password.
I think it may be the router not letting the touch through.

Any help?

Thanks for all the helpful information & suggestions.
What worked for me:
I disconnected & reconnected my DSL modem. Then, I restarted my computer.
For whatever reason, my iTouch was able to find the server again.

I've been able to connect without a problem at Bruegger's, coffee shops, my health clinic waiting room and dentist's office and even my hotel room in Germany.
The only problem I have had has been at home.

Hope this quick fix works every time.
