Ipod Touch wifi cannot find server? ?

Hey Everyone, I just upgraded my touch with the new January software and it worked for about a day. Since then I haven't been able to connect to the internet. It is picking up my wireless router and has a strong signal, but everytime I try a website it says "cannot find server".
I'm really confused because it was working fine until 2 days ago.
I've tried everything (forgetting the wireless connection and reconnecting, disabling the wi-fi then re-enabling it.
I dont know whats wrong. . I have a strong connection with my laptop and my desktop downstairs, its really confusing so if anyone can help it would be great! !

Thanks!

I have been having the same problem. Made an appointment w/ apple store genius. He check the Ipod for 20 minutes, redownloaded the system & told me it was working ok.
I guess the pages he was opening were in memory, because when I got home I can acess the pages on memory but can't go beond that.
Hope they create a pach.

I wish I knew. . . It seems like a lot of people are having the same problem.
I was hoping Apple would have a more thorough support section when it came to wi-fi settings and troubleshooting with the new I-pod touch.
I think I speak for everyone in that. . we need help! !

Hi mm86, I have just purchased an iTouch for my 16 year old daughter. My connection to the my home Wi-FI network is fine - but every time I try to access a web page through safari, I get the error message "Safari can't open the page because it can't find the server". I guess this is the problem we are all having. Thanks, Dutchy ps my son has never had this trouble with his new iPhone!

Here are a few things to try. (look in your router manual or download the manual from the manufacturer's web page)

1- Reset your router
2- For the time being turn off any wireless security
3- On you Ipod Touch (IPT) go to settings/general/reset/reset network settings and reset
4- Now go to settings/WiFi make sure it and ask to join networks are enabled "On"
5- Find your router name and select it then hit the little blue arrow next to it and under DHCP make sure there are numbers in IP address - Subnet - Router - DNS (if there are no numbers in the router or DNS section then your IPT is not picking them up and you will not connect to the network)This can be caused by many things but usually it's an incompatablility with your router.
6- If everything looks good then try to connect to the internet using Safari or one of the other online apps and see it it goes through.
7- If you can now connect then go back to your router and re-enable your wireless security using WAP2 or WEP
8- With security enabled go back to settings/Wifi and pick your network and then enter in the same Password you just used for your WAP2 or WEP and try the connection again.

Again please note if you don't pick up numbers from your Router or DNS then you aren't going to connet to the internet.

Hi, I see from some later notes that by turning off Wi-Fi and turning it back on - the problem was solved. Not for me. I had to go to reset all the Wi-Fi settings to facotry default, and then re connect to the Wi-Fi. Sounds annoying but there we are. I didn#t need to paly around with my router, but if it hadn't worked that is what I would have done nexted. Hope this helps, Dutchy

Hi everyone,

I have been having the same problems over the last few days. My ipod was showing an ip address starting 162.

Just spoken to Apple and gone through the steps people mentioned here again and it didn’t work. An additional step is to switch off you router and switch back on, then reset the wireless settings on your ipod.

This worked first time for me and now able to access the everything ok.

Hope this helps you out!

On, off, reset, renew, deleted and updated and still nothing. i have a full signal and the right ip addresses. But nothing will let me connect. this has only happened since the January upgrade which i might add i was forced into as my ipod miraculously fails whenever an update comes out.

hey apple get you act together and sort this out! We’re not going back to the bad old days are we? and has no one heard of TESTING before an update?!

if anyone has any more suggestions they are greatfully recived.
