Ipod Classic won't connect original BMW Ipod Interface

I just got the original Ipod interface for my BMW E90 320D with the "Business CD" radio. While an Ipod photo or an Ipod mini works just fine with it, my new Classic 160 GB will almost never connect with it.

In most cases I connect the dock cable and push the "menu"-button on the steering wheel to connect, it then shows the colored "connecting" screen with the message "Ipod can be disconnected" (or similar, my Ipod language is set to German). After a couple of seconds the display of the interface says "Ipod Conn Failed".

However, sometimes, when I try connect it, the ipod doesn't show a colored but a white screen saying "BMW" and "Ipod can be disconnected". Then the interfaces connects properly and I can select a song. While playing the song the interfaces crashes again. The song keeps playing but I can't access the ipod via the BMW interface anymore. In very rare cases the system doesn't crash at all and works like it should.

Therefore I don't think it's a problem with the interface but with the ipod about not accepting the BMW application.

Any ideas of how to force it into the "BMW mode" or when an update may be expected?
