Charging iPod with firewire?

I just got a new black 80GB classic. It seems to work fine, and will charge when plugged into my powerbook with a USB cable. The problem is, it won't charge with a firewire cable when plugged into the wall adapter. This iPod is replacing another which was the same one but it was stolen. That iPod worked with the firewire charger. Does anyone have any advice? Should I send it in for service or is this normal?

I am having the same problem but with an ipod touch 16gb. (charges via usb from the computer, but not via firewire and wall charger). It does seem to work however if you reboot the ipod (hold down the home and on/off button until you see the apple logo). Maybe there is an issue between switching between usb/firewire cables and chargers and you may need to do a reboot after swapping?

Please ignore my previous comments I have just realized that the 2 apple chargers I have have different output levels, one being 12v 1.0A (power supply 4148 E131881 LEVEL 3) and the other being 12v 0.67A (LISTED ITE POWER SUPPLY 4T18 E131881) I think it is a simply case of the older chargers not being powerful enough to use with the newer ipods...... (touch etc) we need to buy another charger!
