how to get support from apple in australia

hi friends,

i am new to mac, i have certain problems with my mac, and i need to contact apple regarding this.

i was surprised to see they dont have any form of support options like email or chat support. all they have is a phone support and the number is not toll free.

calling the phone support is stealing my pocket.

the last time i called them, i was on hold for 18min, and couldn't speak to a representative. all i heard was "all our representatives are helping other customers, while we put u on hold, enjoy the music from our itunes store".

all i want to know is how other members in this forum who live in australia get help from apple.

"IS PHONE SUPPORT IS THE ONLY OPTION!!!!!!!"

if yes, please advice me a cheap way to call 133622. i have a optus prepaid connection and its stealing my pocket everytime i call 133622 and the sad part is even after spending a lot on my phone to contact them i dont get support, i am lucky enough to hear the worst selected music from thier itunes store.

Hey Friend,

Please let me say that I feel for your situation. Having to pay for phone service in order to get the support you need seems rather unfair. I am eternally grateful that I live here in the states where phone costs are so competitive that Apple can afford to list a toll-free number.
On the support you need, after looking at all the listings for support around the world, you are not alone in your situation. It leads me to believe that this situation has more to do with geographic situation than Apples lack of trying to support you or others from Australia. The fact that you live on an isolated continent can definitely be a consideration when it comes to giving you cost efficient support.

So let's see what we are these forums can do to help alleviate some of your trials and tribulations.
Please detail the things you are suffering and hopefully we can be in a position to give effective advice.

I sure hope we can help.

Although phone calls to AppleCare Support in the US are free, there is no live chat nor e-mail option available here either. Phone support is the only option here as well. As Adam suggested, the Apple Discussions are a free option, although this is a user-to-user forum. If you need actual service on your Mac, you'll have to bring it in or get a hold of AppleCare Support in Australia. Also, if you pay for Internet access, even the Apple Discussions won't be free...

thanks for ur concern friends.

The reason i wanted to contact apple is, i get a hissing noise from the internal speakers of my macbook, when ever or what ever sound it plays, be it a system sound or my own downloaded music.

for ex: when the system says "Its 7 o' clock"

its "hissssssss..............its 7 o' clock...........hisssssssssssssssssssssssssss"

or if i open itunes or quicktime to play media files

the hissing noise starts even before any file is played
and the noise stops after a long time after i quit those applications.

i dont hear this hissing noise when i have the headphones on.

i already started a thread for that before opening this this one.

the reply i got in that thread was " even i have this problem. can any one else help out"

when browsing through other threads with similar problems.

the users were advised to reset the SMC or pram or reinstall the OS

i tried doing all the above steps but it did not solve the problem.

if any of the members here can think of any other step that may solve this issue it will be greatly helpful thanks.

or the other option left with me is to spend $100 for my phone and ring phone support and wait in the longest queue and see if i can reach a technical assistant.

i really pain in the a *............

i accept with u powerful 1, after using a hp pavilion notebook with altec lansing internal speakers, i feel these speakers are crap, but it should be decent enough not to make hissing noise.

my query is

do all the macbooks make this hissing noise?

or its just my macbook making this noise because of a faulty hardware?

some users have suggested to install a copy of win Xp trough boot camp and see if the hissing noise persist, to find whether its the macbook or the leopard.

but all i want is a relief from windows and don't want to use it in my macbook. i have a hp Notebook with vista for using windows.

please suggest a method other than reset smc, pram, reinstall os, i have done all these and no remedy

and please dont suggest me to use win xp trough boot camp, i dont want to do this.
