Can't speak to Apogee Duet, but the MOTU Ultralite is rock solid; well built, good drivers, and portable. It's bigger that the Duet, but has much more expandability. I have an M-Audio Firewire 410, and it works ok but I wouldn't trust the drivers for live performance. I have used the MOTU for live performance using Live 5 and it works like a charm.

I'm pretty sure that any device that has drivers for your operating system will work with any piece of software you own. In other words, if it works with Logic it will work with Live. All of the devices talk to Core Audio, which in turn talks to the device so everything is streamlined. You shouldn't need to worry about whether a device works with a specific piece of software, just whether it works with your OS.

Good Luck!

Well, for portability, you could choose a Focusrite Saffire. Haven't got any experience with the drivers myself, but my m8 uses this a lot. Never had any problems. He also uses it for recording dj-sets and other stuff.

I myself use a Tascam 1804 firewire soundcard. It actually is a 19" rack mounted card. Not that easy to carry around though. I would go for an Focusrite Saffire, as it would only be the excellent price for your needs.

Don't go anywhere near M-Audio. Always problems in my opinion.
