Save as Postscript returns only part of page

(this is also posted in Printing & Faxing area, but no response, so here it is again)

I need to email pdf's of Vectorworks files to a local print bureau for large format printing (no in-house plotter). They only want PDF's or PLT's (change the .PS extension to .PLT in a postscript file and they can print it no prob). No, they will not download and use the free Mac/Win Vectorworks Reader.

If I choose Print:Save as PDF, the image is slightly under scale and the line qualitiy is not so great. If I choose Print:Save as File:Postscript and open in Preview, the resulting PDF is accurately scaled and has good line quality. This worked fine for tests in letter size, but for larger sheet sizes the postscript option shows only part of the page, usually about equiv to legal size portion of the drawing starting at lower left corner of the sheet. Print:Save as PDF always shows whole page for any size page, but prints out slightly under scale and line quality is not so great.

I have two Epson 825 printers (letter/legal physical page size limit), and they show up as the only printers in my printer list.

Do I need some other virtual Postscript printer in my printer list?
Kappy (my savior with certain past problems!) found a PS Generator on VersionTracker, but it was a blind link when I tried it.

Isn't the Save as Postscript option same kind of thing as the old "desktop printer" we used to make in OS 7 and 8? That used to work for big drawings.

Any experience with this problem?

I am running OS 10.3.9 and Vectorworks 11.5
Here is my drawing set up in VW:

File Menu: Page Setup:Custom paper size: 48" x 36", scale 100% (I tried both landscape and portrait orientations - same problem)

Page Menu:Set print area:Arch E (it reverts to "one page" 36" x 48"), Show page boundary, Show page breaks (same problem if these "Show" options are not checked).

Thanks

A similar problem, but more tightly honed. I have a hand-coded PostScript file, that renders a page on A4 landscape. Adobe's distiller renders it perfectly. But Preview attempts to render it to a portrait US letter page, therefore truncating the right-hand-side of the output.

What is needed is the ability to choose the page setup for the file that is about to be opened (or to have opening a file without page-size information automatically open the page setup dialog box before rendering).

Please, how can this be done?

Hi Benson,

Do a search in these forums for localhost.

I had a similar problem using postscript files. Somebody posted some info on how to set up for postscript printing by setting up a localhost with an IP address ( your own machine)

I also had to get a copy of adobe distiller which is excellent for the PDF work.

This will create an IN folder and an OUT folder. You save your PS file to the IN folder and then run distiller which once you've set it up creates the PDF in the OUT folder. You have a lot more control over your PDF production through distiller.

Hope this helps
