French quotation marks

How do you insert these quotation marks « » so they do not sit on the font baseline?

G5, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

I switched my keyboard to French but had no success.


Try Option/Alt + 7 and Option/Alt + Shift + 7. If you don't get the right marks, tell us what you do get.

PS On a US keyboard, it should be Option + \ and Option + Shift + \.

The correct placement is for them to point at exactly half the height of a lower case letter. All the ones I am able to create behave that way. Do you think it should be otherwise, or do you see this behavior as "sitting on the baseline"?
