Shift click? doesn't work.

What application and situations are you trying to use it in, lawrence? There are often other options available for doing this, too, by the way (such as using "command a" to "select all")

The "SHIFT-click" of OS9 and earlier was replaced by COMMAND-click in OSX for selecting multiple items in the Finder.

shift-click still works in Tiger just like window-boxes. It should select every item between the highlighted one, and the one that's shift-clicked; whereas command-click would select the 1st and last, but not those inbetween.

ahh, Apple Help puts it slightly differently, but it should work as Lawrence says.

Selecting items
In the Finder and other applications, you can select items in several ways.
Click to select a single item. Drag to select a group of items.
Press the Shift key and click other items to include them in the selection. Click a selected item to deselect it.
To select multiple items in a list that are not next to one another, press the Command key and click the items you want. Click a selected item again to deselect it.

just for clarity - we're talking about the list or columns view, right? I note that shift-click works as command-click in icons view. ( I coulda sworn that used to be different- but maybe thinking Windows? )

Well, I can't actually get it to misbehave on my MPB, lawrence. In finder windows in list or column view it selects everything between the two "clicks", just as it always has.

In icon view, it behaves just as it does if you use 'command click", but I'm pretty sure this has been the way it has operated for a long time now (I always just drag across on those rare occasions when I want to select multiple adjacent items in icon view).
