Lyrics-What's Up? They don't stay in itunes Can't view on iPod?

So what gives?

I've put lyrics in for several whole albums and they don't stay. Then The ipod says it knows there are lyrics but can't display them.

I read the IPOD PDF and it doesn't supply any help.

Any suggestions?

I put lyrics in a file and selected all and set all to Times font.

Cheers,
Ramona

Running current itunes and ipod OS.

Lyrics need to be copied and pasted in to the itunes lyric tab for the individual song that you want lyrics for. Select the song you want right click and choose get info. go to the lyrics tab, and paste in your lyrics for that song. Save changes. Also make sure that your mp3 files are using id3v2.3. Do a search on converting id3 tags if you have to. Next what type of ipod? If this is a ipod touch then you need to have paid for and installed the jan. app upgrade for the lyrics to be available. If it is a touch then while playing a song in portrait mode, tap once on the cover art to bring up lyrics. Other ipods, I believe you just click the center button till you get to the lyrics.

Yup...I cut and pasted the lyrics into the "get info" option for each song for *several albums, several separate times* and only the *lyrics for a couple of the songs* actually stayed.

I am using an IPOD CLASSIC 80g with the current OS. And current itunes OS.

Wasn't aware of the "mp3 files are using id3v2.3" thing whatever that means...guess i have something else to burn an hour learning about. Generally I stick with AIFF not mp3.

As I stated earlier...the ipod says it knows I have lyrics but can not show them...

*after clicking center button several times* i get a small version of album art with artist and title of album and this message

*"lyrics detected, but unable to retrieve"*

Like I was saying before, select the offending songs that aren't working, go to the advanced menu, and select convert id3 tags. Click on the id3 version checkbox and select v2.3. Easiest thing to do would be to just select all of the songs in your itunes library, and then do the same - convert all of the tags to version 2.3. The check the song files to see if you need to re-add the lyrics, resync your ipod and check it out.

So I highlighted the playlist I wanted to covert. It was an AIFF File. The option to covert to ID3 is not available. I checked an ACC file. Same deal. I checked an MP3 file and it has that option. So I will try to input the lyrics for that album and see how it goes... ;-/

*bangs head... I don't really want to convert my music to MP3. And frankly it doesn't make sense that I have to have my music on my ipod in MP3 format in order to utilize the lyrics feature.

*curses

Can you see the sense in this in this feature?

thanks for your help

Yeah they are AIFF files for sure.

So I did the deal you suggested for a playlist that was in mp3 format. It had the option to convert the tags. I converted the tags to 2.3 and input the lyrics and synced. *Works fine. But only for mp3 files.* Not for the AIFF files at all.

The message the ipod says when I try to view lyrics of AIFF files is...

*_"lyrics detected, but unable to retrieve"_*

Further more itunes does not store lyrics properly for AIFF files. They disappear randomly.

I viewed the playlist with the lyrics that was in MP3 and that is just so darn cool...I wish it worked with the AIFF files. I'll get around to making 2 playlists of the same album but one in mp3 and then one in AIFF and see how they sound on my various music players.

I just didn't want to diddle around converting even part of my 70g library on the lappie to mp3. Blech!

I don't have much patience for things that don't make sense... 😉 And this doesn't make sense to me...that the lyrics are only viewable on the ipod if the music format is in MP3.

I'll try and report back soon if my Epistemology homework doesn't eat my brain out first. 😉 Thanks for the help!

The bleeding array of types of file formats confound and annoy me to no end.

So am I to assume that if the music files are in AAC I can view the lyrics on the iPod? I suppose I can try it out eh? I'll get there...here I am avoiding my Epistemology homework again.

I was desperate for space on my hard drive so I converted a whole load of music to MP3/mpeg at 192. ;-< Then read up some AGAIN.

I am such a dork I had to take notes on a 3x5 card.

AAC compresses but does not preserve all the data right? FLAC and APPLE LOSSLESS do that, compress and save all data. What is the size difference? Is there an easy to remember ratio for that?

Going from mp3/mpeg back to AIFF, Flac, Or Apple Lossless is that data gone forever?

*sigh

Guess that 20G savings on my hard drive was good for something right?

*harumph

Thanks for any input...
