"Pro Tools" could not be launched because of a shared library

I am trying to install Pro Tools but I keep getting the following error message everytime I try to open the program after restarting :

The application "Pro Tools" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "<Pro Tools PPC dbg><Pro Tools PPC dbg><DAE><FreeFic>"

I had tried to install it before but deleted anything having to do with Pro Tools files and folders before trying to reinstall. Can anyone help out? Thanks

Try this... Open Terminal.app and type:

sudo update_prebinding -force -root /
sudo periodic daily weekly monthly
sudo diskutil repairPermissions /

... and see if that helps. The first command updates the dynamic library cache (basically, an index of functions and the frameworks they're associated with). The second line invokes the regular maintenance scripts, and the last double checks that files installed as part of packages have the correct ownership and permissions set for them.

It sounds like a library/framework has been altered/updated/removed at some point.

ok, so let me try to understand......the error message (when i try to open the 6.8.1 version) is normal to pop up when trying to open the 6.8.1 version BUT it is actually installed correctly? so if i now buy the 7.4 upgrade, an exsisting version of the 6.8.1 version of pro tools will be recognized on my computer and after installing the upgrade the pro tools 7.4 , pro tools will open without that error message and work fine on my 10.4.11 version of tiger?

That's how it should work. You can always contact the PT tech support to make sure.

The problem stems from the fact that the older ProTools is using a long since deprecated audio library. Newer versions use Apple's CoreAudio library. That's what the "DAE" in your error is referring to; the app can't run because it can't find the old audio support library (which no longer exists).

Thanks JD. You may have saved my wallet. I will try PT support and see if everything is jsut needing the upgrade to get rid of that error message. What you make makes perfect sense.

Thank you, and the other guys (and girls?) that help people on here out of your own goodwill. Apple should throw you guys some bonuses, like for when you accumulate so many solved problems you get a free iphone or something. You all deserve it.
