MacBook doesn't charge when closed

I just noticed that my MacBook hasn't been charging when it is closed. That means the little light on the power adapter isn't even showing up. As far as I can remember, my old iBook would charge while closed, and I thought my MacBook used to as well. Does anyone know what's going on?
