Shared Library Error

I am trying to install Chessmaster 9000 onto my iMac. When I click the installer icon I receive the following error message:

"The application " Chessmaster 9000 install" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "<Baseinstaller Carbon>"".

I have already repaired permissions, but no change. I have sent a tech support question to Feral Interactive, but I was hoping someone could give
me a solution or at least an explanation of what this message is still me
(besides the obvious).

Thank you advance,
Gary K.

They can be the same cause but I think that reinsalling the application would be the first order.

Failing that I would download and install the combo updater for 10.3.9 and run that. My take on the software updater is that it sometimes misses components to install. Yeah, it saves download time but quite a few problems can be cleared up using the combo updaters and reinstalling.

If that does not work then it may be time for an archive and install. This is pretty drastic but shared libraries are a key component of X and they need to function properly.

Dear Edwin,

I'm encouraged to see that you have a familiarity with a problem that I am having. I've already e-mailed feral the following note. Do you know if Gary was able to get past this problem and enjoy the program? Was it the problem that you suspected? This is really a drag . . . . and I suspect would effect many Chessmaster customers who regularly update their software (I am currently at 10.3.9).

I just purchased ChessMaster 9000 and was eager to install it this evening. Unfortunately, I can't get it to install and only get the following message when I double click the install icon:

Application Launch Failure

The Application "Chessmaster 9000" install could not be
launched because of a shared library error:
"<baseinstaller Carbon>"

I am running a G4 Powerbook with more than the minimum OS, RAM and hard drive space needed. The same error message occurred when I tried installing it on my G4 tower.

Please help ASAP.

Many Thanks

We have what we believe is an 100% fix. It involves you downgrading Quicktime. It appears that the Quicktime install can get damaged and this then stops many applications including Chessmaster 9000 from working. If you downgrade the down-grader reinstalls quicktime fixing the problem.

If you click on the link below you will find some instructions.

Hi
I have recently started getting the application launch failure due to shared library error ....<carbonLib> on all my microsoft office v.X and IE applications.
I have tried repairing the disk and its permissions - no change. Next step was to
download the OS 10.4.6 combo, but no destination drive comes up for selection, so I can't proceed that way at the moment. Any advice ?
many thanks

As long as you have not installed Quicktime 7.1 this solution should help you.

We have had issues with this with some of our game installers, turns out to be related to a damaged Quicktime file. Downgrading will fix the issue. (You can then reupgrade at your leisure). These steps have worked for all of the reports we have dealt with at Feral, so I would be fairly hopeful it should work will similar issues with other apps as the error is the same.

Edwin

Hello. I recently went on vacation for a week and shut down my computer. Everything was fine on it when I left. When I came back home I tried to open the application AOL instant messenger but I got a message saying that there was an application launch failure. I deleted all of my AOL files and attempted to re-download and install the program. I successfully downloaded the software onto my computer but when I tried to install it, I got the message:

Application Launch Failure\

The application "InstallerVISE" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "o<BaseInstallerCarbon><CarbonLib><CFMPriv_ATS>"

A similar message pops up when I try to open any other application I downloaded from the internet. For example, Windows Media Player (for macintosh).

Somebody please help my poor computer!
