Copy/Paste unsorts lists

I need a list of the file names in a folder. I open the folder, do a select all, copy and paste into an email page. The list is totally out of sort order with no rhyme or reason. It doesn't matter where I paste: email, Word, Excel, TextEdit. Anyone know why or better, how to remedy this problem? I've had this problem over the years over various OS and computers. Thanks.

It's an odd one to be sure.

The problem only occurs when copying a list of file names from the Finder. Copying text in a sorted order out of a document to another works fine.

So... my workaround when I need to communicate files I have in a folder, I copy them, paste into a blank Word doc, sort and then copy/paste the list into whatever target doc, like an email, that I want.

Not the worst problem I've encountered 🙂
