No Camera and Scanner wizzard in OS X!?

Im new to Mac but finding a dissapointing surprise every day when learnign to use Leopard. The latest is the lack of a Camera and Scanner wizard as found in Windows. I have never used any software issued with a piece of hardware I have bought for the computer e.g camera, printer, scanner etc. Windows was just good with having had a decent application to do all of the required tasks.

*How on earth does one scan in Mac? Im talking about a native MAC application for scanning, not something through Word, Adobe etc. Did the software designers simply miss this one when they stayed up late at night writing code?*

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Wizards are called setup assistants on the mac. Most applications that require help come with an assistant. However scanners and cameras are not manfucatured by apple. So only cameras and scanners that confirm to open standards will be automatcially setup with iphoto or image capture.

Most digital cmeras do confirm to stadnards. Scanners don't therefore most scanners come with 3rd party software.

If your scanner is twain compliant and you have installed its driver then it is support in image capture.

/Applications/Image Capture.app

No. Image Capture has been around since the begining of osx. Printers had a setup assistant but in leopard that assitant is now within the printer preference pane and not a standalone app.

The first time you plug a camera in iphoto will ask you if you want iphoto to handle the picture transfers etc.

I really don't see where your getting lost.

If you have a specific issue with a piece of hardware then please post your problem but next time I would suggest you post in the correct section of the forum as this thread is way off topic and not related to getting online and networking.

Essentially the problem with scanners and cameras is that they aren't as standardized as printers. So assistants/wizards aren't as easy to come by.

Most cameras are easy enough to read with card readers that are Mac OS X compatible via Image Capture or iPhoto (if your Mac came with iPhoto, or you purchased iLife). In fact it is better to use a card reader than a camera, as card readers don't require the battery juice for the camera to do the transfer.

As others have indicated Image Capture will support a certain line of scanners too. For all others, there is Hamrick's Vuescan, SANE scanner drivers and Silverfast scanner drivers if not included by the scanner manufacturer. I've made a link here* which lists the links to those developers:

http://www.macmaps.com/macosxnative.html#SCANNER

So the question becomes, what type of media does your camera support, and what scanner do you want to connect? We can then tell you which card reader to get, and if drivers exist from the scanner developer, or the third party sources I've outlined.
