Logitech Remote–Apple TV Standby Mode

I just got a Logitech Harmony One Remote and I have it working perfectly for my AV set-up (Cable, DVD, HDTV, Apple TV) with one exception. When I exit/quit Apple TV as an activity it does not go into standby mode which in the real world is accomplished by holding the Play button on an Apple Remote for 5 seconds.

Is there some way to accomplish this so Apple TV will go to Standby when I turn it off?

Hmm... I'm using the same remote without a problem. I would imagine you set up your remote using Logitech's website and selected the AppleTV? As you seem to be able to use your AppleTV with the remote, I'm guessing you have. One thing to note is that the AppleTV has a habit of coming out of standby all on its own. I used to think it was an issue with my remote until I read the posts from people saying their AppleTV regularly comes out of standby. Are you saying that when you turn your system off using the Harmony, the white LED on the AppleTV does not go off? Or have you found that after turning your system off, you noticed some time later that the LED was on?

i have an 880, and i'm sure the web interface for programming is similar, if not the same... you should be able to go into the device and adjust the delays on the button presses. just make it 5000 or 6000ms for power off.... that worked for me.

I'd give you the exact steps to do it but i can't open the software as it won't accept the new update that logitech released.

It briefly (Apple TV power light) flashes when I quit/switch activities and Apple TV remains on when I exit (this is not the "later" power on which is another issue altogether)

Note: I did use Logitech set-up and all other functions work as expected. When I hold down the Logitech Remote button manually while Apple TV is on for the 5 seconds on the Remote, the power button comes on when I release it unlike with the Apple remote which leaves the light off in standby mode.

The way the Logitech remote works is a little different than the AppleTV remote. You should just press the off button and release it (without holding it down). The remote is smart enough to know what it has to do. It works this way because the system is designed to be able to shut your whole system down with just one click (TV, receiver, AppleTV, etc). Have you tried just pressing and releasing it? You should also be using the power button on the Logitech remote (not the play/pause button as you would on the AppleTV remote).

There really isn't a significant reason to put it in standby. While a few internal components are shut down (mostly related to video output), pretty much everything else is still running just as if it were on. Some people just prefer to turn things off. The only way to really turn off the AppleTV is to pull the plug.

I have a 550 remote, and after a lot of struggling, I ended up leaving the TV on all the time. There is an option somewhere to do this.

My problems ranged from power off sometimes working, then sometimes not working, then sometimes the TV would come up on power-up as though a hard reset had occured.

I had the latest firmware and software for the Harmony remote, and even did a hard reset, deleted all components, and re-adding everything. I also played for hours with the different delay settings. Nothing worked.

I have also found that with Harmony remotes (I had a 720 before), sometimes everything will work for months, and then certain devices will have power problems. Nothing works, and then after reloading the config 15 times, it just magically starts working again. Unfortunately there is very little out there in the way of affordable remotes.
