I bought a 2008 MacPro and am about to buy some extra RAM to go with it. I checked out both OWC and TransIntl. For 8GB (2GBx4) the price is practically the same ($1 diff). However I noticed that the Trans heat sinks seem to be spitting images of the Apple ones, but OWC's look very different. Looking at the OWC, they don't seem like they would be very good at dissipating the heat, they look pretty flimsy to me. Has anyone had any issues with the OWC RAM running to hot, or does the sink do enough of a job despite appearances?
Anyone have any personal experiences causing them to lean one way or another?
People buy both, so there should be no problem with either. Maybe the photo doesn't do justice? If it was me, I would buy OWC TechWorks. It might be more, when I looked it's price it was $425 for Trans and $590? for TechWorks for 4 x 2GB. Still a good buy (I paid $400 for 2 x 1GB a yr ago!).
I have Apple RAM, OWC RAM, and OWC supplied Techworks RAM in my MP. No problems whatsoever. The OWC RAM is great stuff. I compared it to the other RAM and the chips are just as sturdy.
