Huawei USB Modem E220

Hi

I am using a Huawei USB Modem E220 which I received with a software called "Mobile Connect" from my provider.

It worked great under Tiger, but I finally upgraded to Leopard and was wondering if anyone new where I could download a driver that allows it to run under Leopard.

If I try to open and run it now, I get an error message saying that there was an error and offering to close or relaunch. Relaunching does not solve the problem.

My provider seems slightly unclear (to say the least) as to whether an upgrade is available or not, etc. Well, not very helpful.

Any ideas and/or suggestions?

Thanks for the comment, but the guy who did all the leg work, testing, configuration and research, deserves the credit.

Especially since he posted such accurate instructions.

Have fun with Leopard, but back up everything, repair permissions before and after the upgrade, and remove programs that are known problems before doing your upgrade. You'll be fine 🙂

he sure does =) but again, thanks to you for pointing me in the right direction.

my first experience of upgrading to leopard was not all that easy.

i did a simple upgrade (out of lack of knowledge to do any better) which ran just fine. but then the 10.5.1 update really messed things up - non-stop kernel attacks that got to the point when i couldn't even restart my mac as it crashed right away.

well, that, and a few apps i needed that where not compatible yet. hence why i went back to tiger (thank you superduper and lacie disk =) with no loss of information, documents, photos, etc.

i decided to wait a bit and read A LOT on this forum - and hey, i learned A LOT too.

this usb modem was the only app i couldn't run under leopard. until yesterday.

i finally got the courage to decide to go with leopard again. i really cleaned up my mac beforehand, checked and repaired permissions and did an archive & install this time.

that went smooth.

and then the dreaded 10.5.1 update. and (i don't want to be too optimistic), but so far, so good.

=) so fingers crossed, it remains that way!

I tried those instructions on my mac book running leopard and it simply will not connect no matter what. It can't even see the modem to connect with.
😟

I have googled it to bits, but if anyone turns up any other sites that might allow me to get my e220 modem running under Leopard 10.5.2 that would be awesome.
