Hi,

I don't know if this we'll solve all of your problems but for sure it will be a good think for you that want/need to work with ntfs formatted disks. You should try NTFS-3G for mac. With this tool you will be able to have read/write access to ntfs formatted drives. Here is the link http://www.ntfs-3g.org/. Just download the dmg package and install i think is all that you have to do. Then plug your hard drive and you can now go and change the permissions on your files so you can write on that drive.

I'm using a program called Paragon NTFS for Mac to access my Windows XP external hard drives, and so far it is working flawlessly. It costs money, and Fuse is free, so you might want to try Fuse first. But I tried Fuse in 2007 and it didn't work right for me (I might have been too stupid to use it correctly, and it may have improved since then). Paragon works great.

Now when is writing to NTFS drives just going to be native inside OS X?
