HP ScanJet 6200c with 10.4.11 - without VueScan

HP ScanJet 6200c with 10.4.11 - without VueScan

I have a perfectly good ScanJet 6200c that I would like to use with my (new to me) g4 10.4.11.
I checked out VueScan which is nice, but does anyone know if there anything out there that is free?
Seems a shame to have to buy a new scanner since this one works just fine, and I hate to use my Windows box now that I have seen the light.

Is the question whether or not Tiger has the drivers?

The printer site should have an option to download new drivers and software.

There is only one such animal: SANE drivers. There's also a GUI interface - Scan Again. But be aware these are not for the amateur.

If I were you I'd pay the money for VueScan. It's not that expensive and includes OCR. The only other OCR program for the Mac costs $200.00.

I find it odd that you'd be willing to buy a new scanner but not willing to pay for the software that would enable you to use the scanner you already have. The Pro version of VueScan is $80.00. A new scanner will cost that much. And, the software it comes with will probably only work with that scanner. VueScan works with hundreds of scanners. To my mind you're being illogical.

You might want to check that out first, Ray. In fact HP does not have OS X drivers for that scanner model - it's a scanner, not a printer!

Thanks for the info and links, Kappy.
I don't scan all that much, and I don't like the all-in-ones, and I just bought a new photo printer b4 I got my Mac, and I can still scan fine with Windows, I just thought I would keep the scanner on my Mac.
Thanks again for the help, I'm sure my logic will improve since I am leaving Windows for greener pastures!

Well, older scanners are worth keeping if they do the job, and the standard version of VueScan is only $40.00. I've been using it since it first came out on my Epson Perfection 1650. No complaints. I can recommend it without reservations. And it's now even more useful since OCR was integrated into it because there are no other OCR programs that work with Tiger and above except Read Iris which costs $200.00.
