MacBook Air Overheating

Sounds like a hardware problem to me, contact Apple to fix it!

I feel ripped off by Apple. They need to go public with a fix for this MacBook Air overheating problem. I am inclined to think that it is a physical problem, maybe something with the heat sinks making contact, or something else. Because why else do people keep saying things were fine for a long time, then one day the problem comes and then never leaves even if they reinstall. If it's a physical problem then it's something that can be located and fixed via the Genius bar.

Mine have the same problem, is a MBA Rev.A? All MBA Rev.A have several problems...
To be honest I have an extremely negative perception about MacBook Air Rev. A. Exist core shutdowns and lockups, I need to use coolbook, and my performs tasks are miserable.
The recent problem is a defect who creates Broke Hinge...
We are talking about a expensive computer!

Genius. Thanks so much. I've been wracking my brains trying to work out why my battery life suddenly halved a couple of months ago. I thought it was the battery at the end of its life. 97% health but 255 cycles. The genius at the apple store changed the battery and i figured that would be me sorted, but no difference. When I looked at the activities monitor i couldn't find a culprit but after reading your post I went and hunted some more. Finally spotted the 'all processes' tab, rather than 'my processes', quit the printer process hoovering 97% of my processor and watched my expected battery life double. Will be watching for that in future.

I feel let down by Apple. My MBA is very, very, very, very HOT. Especially after upgrading to 10.5.7. Yes, we are talking about an expensive computer. Should not have happened in the first place.

I am now on my THIRD MBA (having had it replaced twice). Each time it has been the same problem.
The machine gets extremely hot around the 'escape' button and then slows down to the extent that i cannot type or even move the cursor without it jumping all over the screen.

I can't narrow down what causes the problem but it often happens when I watch internet video. Sometimes it happens when i run just one or two programs and I'm so fed up of it

I loved the machine for its design and portability but i think i am going to have to give up on apple and switch back to a Vaio

1) I have owned my air for 1 1/2 years and I have noticed in the last few months it takes forever to power up. This was not the case when I first bought the book. Anyway to improve this?
2) My battery life has continued to deteriorate to the point where a full charge is only 1hr 20min life. Can these batteries be replaced?

Yes, but not by the customer.

I have exactly the same problem. After a while it's difficult even to type. Even if I do only word processing with MS Word and some Internet with Safari. (No video!)
So I wonder, if the MBA ssd 2nd gen was a notebook with an e-paper screen, (that means no back-light at least, without talking about the minimum power requirements), Atom cpu, no battery built in, and also no fan, then it would be a machine with very low or even no heat emissions? (And no fan noise!)
And another question: What is the main heat responsible (internal) piece of the MBA? The battery? The power charger? The cpu? The graphics cpu? The back-light lamp?

Sorry to jump in on this post folks but i"ve just purchased a Rev A Macbook Air that seems to be ok so far but i am watching it like a hawk!

I'm curious with regard to the overheating issues people are having, has anybody actually had a logic board replaced recently and if so does it fix the problem?

Also have Apple released a "new" version of the board? I remember back in 06 i bought a rev A Macbook Pro and it had all kinds of issues that were eventually fixed with a revised logic board. The engineer confirmed this when it was installed, different model numbers on the board or something.

If you run the iStat dashboard widget, what kinds of temperatures is it showing you?

An average of 2000 i'd say, it hit 6000 once when i was transffering 50gb wirelessly but it had been on and used all day. never had it since.

My MBA, Rev.A, became really hot after updating 10.5.7. It is too hot to put on my lap.

I have a macbook air. something happen that got me concerned. i put my computer on stanby. Then went to the airport. when I got the computer out my bag at the airport the bottom was so hot I could not touch it. It booted allright. what caused this heat? should the FAA be advised of this? Could it cause a hazard on the plane?
I would appreciate any feed back on this particular issue.
