This is a problem I get periodically, it seems to be random. When I plug my shuffle onto the dock, windows gives a message about "installing device driver" then the mouse locks up, as does the keyboard. There's then a "USB Device not recognized" message, and the computer is dead. Sometimes even the power button stops responding. Normally, it works great.
Well start with these articles and see if that gets you anywhere...
iPod is not recognized properly by computer when USB drivers are not installed properly or are out of date
iTunes for Windows: iTunes 7 doesn't recognize iPod
iPod missing in "My Computer" or in iTunes for Windows
Also you might try forcing the iPod into disk mode first, then connecting it to your computer and see if that makes it show up in iTunes...
Putting iPod into Disk Mode
Perhaps the iPod Shuffle utility might help?
I have the same problem, everytime i connect my ipod shuffle to the computer, it says "USB decive not recognized" except, it recognizes all other USB devices (digital camera, Memory sticks...) and my ipod is recognized by other computers. it's just my home computer that cant seem to recognize my shuffle.
i've tried many things but all attempts were unsuccessful!
HELP! anyone know why this is happening?
