Sony DCR-DVD810

I recently purchased a Sony DCR-DVD810 hybrid video camera. It has built in compact flash drive plus DVD recorder and USB 2.0 connection to the computer. I could not get iMovie HD to recognize the camera. Even upgrading to iMovie 08 did not work. I needed to install the Quick Time MPEG 2 decoder as well(a $20 download from apple's website.) This combination allows iMovie to recognize the camera and download clips.

I'm not sure, but I think you might be able to use the MPEG 2 decoder with iMovie HD to edit your movies.

I just thought this may help someone so they don't have to go through the headaches I had to.

I also have the Sony DCR-DVD810 hybrid video camera. I was able to use iMove HD by first purchasing VisualHub ($23.32). The software converts almost anything into DV, DVD, AVI, MPEG, MPEG and others. The great thing about it is that it's very easy to use and it can convert many files at a time (in batch mode). This is working for me. I purchased iLife8 but don't think it (iMOVIE8)will run on my powerbook pro G4. My mistake.

I have the Sony DCR DVD810 also. I have tried unsuccessfully to hook the camera to my imac. Read online that only 2 solutions were to either get a tray DVD player or a RCA to Firewire converter box. Not sure what that is. So I just tried a Pinnacle Studio MovieBox Plus but it did not work. It had a firewire output but did not work. So how did you connect your camera? USB? Then used the VisualHub software? I'm total beginner. Please walk me through.
Thanks
Lori
