iphone Keypad is locked

Iphone 8g. 1.1.2/ NEW! when placing a call using keypad, just after pressing any number, phone returns to "home". It only remains in the keypad when pressing * or #, pressing any number takes me back to "home'. The only way to place a call is using a directory number. Also, it is not receiving calls, strangely it makes a sound but that's it! Please help. By the way I have reset the phone several times.

Start with a reset by holding down the top and home buttons until the Apple logo appears.

If that doesn't work, sync with your computer and then use iTunes to perform a restore.

Do the numbers show up at the top of the screen as though they have been entered?
Try resetting the phone by holding the sleep button and home button together until you see the apple on the screen.
