Hi there- I am trying to use more keyboard shortcuts to avoid onset of RSI. My issue relates to quitting applications, like word, WITHOUT saving changes. Obviously, when closing documents, 'enter' performs the default option, which is 'save'. 'Esc' cancels the action. I want to perform the NON-DEFAULT action using the keyboard. Is this possible?
Hi there. In addition to the other suggestions listed above, you can also use tab to select the option that you want and hit spacebar after "Dont Save" is selected. The nice thing about using tab and space, is that any action can be selected, and you don't have to remember the key combinations.
Just thought I'd mention that in Thunderbird, the only way I know to close without saving is hit Ctrl-D from within the Save dialog box. The tab button does not work and Command-D does not work.
I do all my email from Tiger/PPC. I don't know if this is true in Leopard/intel or Leopard/PPC.
Go to System Preferences—>Keyboard and Mouse. Click on the Keyboard Shortcuts tab. At the bottom, you'll find a pair of radio buttons, labelled "Text boxes and lists only" and "All controls". Click on the lower button, "All controls". You should then be able to navigate all buttons as well, using the Tab key. The focus is shown as a blue border. Pressing the space bar clicks the currently selected button.
By default, you can also toggle this setting using Ctrl-F7.
Hurrah! Thanks very much. Apple + D works a treat in Word, but does not work in thunderbird for example- but tab and space does. Thanks a lot! That makes my life a lot easier.
