CPU Extension SSE2

Today I was attempting to install Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 on my Mac Pro, and when I tried to start the install, it said my computer was lacking CPU Extension SSE2.

From my research, it seems like this is usually a Windows problem, do to the fact that I can find nothing regarding Macintosh with this problem. Mac Pro's have Intel Processors, correct?

Does anyone know what the problem could be?

SSE2 is a feature of many Intel processors and is used by software on Windows, Linux, and OS X (among others) to speed up certain calculations.

To see what type of processor your Mac uses, click on the Apple in the upper left of the screen and then click on "About This Mac". Let us know what you find.

The computer isn't at my home, and it does not have internet access. So, I would not be able to tell you until tomorrow night. It's a fairly typical Mac Pro, as far as I know.

Does anyone have any advice of what I could try tomorrow? As to not waste the day not knowing?

It sound to me like you have one of the older G5 based Mac Pros. Adobe CS3 requires an Intel based Mac. See Adobe system requirements here:

Kevin,

Just a slight correction:

There are no G5-based Mac Pros. All Mac Pros are Intel-based. All G5s are Power Macs and use PowerPC processors.

Ooops, of course. Thanks for the correction.

From the outside they look very much alike, but the G5 machines were called Power Macs.
