getting inundated with MAILER-DAEMON messages

For the last few days I have been getting many return mail messages like **message you sent blocked by our bulk email filter**. The emails are from addresses I don't recognize and I didn't send out any of the emails they are referencing. What is going on? Do I have a virus or something? What can I do to stop this? Thanks!

Greetings and welcome,

Rather than a virus it sounds more like your e-mail address has been stolen. Or spoofed. Someone is sending out spam with your address, and you are getting the results. Or they could be phishing for your information, hoping that you'll respond to some of the e-mails and confirm that the address is actually a working one, and so know that they have a good address for sending spam to.

Hi Paulamarie,

I think that this is the case. Over the years I have regularly a bounced back Mailer Daemon message after I sent mail.

I the beginning that I received these messages I was wondering if people got the message i sent, So I called them only to confirm.

I never respond to a Mailer Daemon messages. Just select it an mark it as junk mail.
