Your Plantronics .audio85 (USB mic headset) not working properly in 10.5.2?

After many months of USB mic headset bliss with my Plantronics .audio 85 and my macbook pro, the latest update (i.e. 10.5.2) has given rise to a couple of annoying issues:

- sound output sometimes disappears when playing videos
- microphone signal quality quickly degrades upon use with iChat

Anybody else out there having the same issues with their USB mic headset after installing the 10.5.2 update?

Should I just give up and buy a new pair?

If anyone's got a good idea about what's going on, I'm all ears!

yep, totally broken.

My USB plantronics worked fine in 10.4 and 10.5 until 10.5.2. After using it it works for a few minutes then i hear this weird sound. Audio playback in most programs makes really weird noises and cuts out or a moment then comes back. The Microphone is worse, if i use it in Garageband it totall hoses and never starts working right in any program unless i relaunch garageband (somehow resets it?) or unplug and replug in the headset. Its extremely annoying altogether though when trying ot use voice chat and having to unplug and replug in your USB headset every 3 minutes so you can keep talking and not have the audio input all garbled where no one can understand you. The problem happened the moment I installed 10.5.2, and continues. I think they borked something with some headset drivers, not sure.

I'm glad I'm not alone with this problem.

I had some success in using my USB headset mic again by switching which USB port I use on my MBP, but:

* this should not have been a problem in the first place because it was working fine from 10.4.x to 10.5.1
* I don't know how long my "quick-fix" will actually work for...

Though this may sound bad, I hope that there are enough USB mic headset users out there who are experiencing the same problems that Apple will send out an official fix fairly soon (/cross fingers).

well I unplugged all my extra USB things and it was still messing up. I plugged in the USB headset to the USB port right by the power plug on my MBP and its been working for a long time now with little issue. I head a little weird thing sometimes, for a milisecond, like it might of paused, but it doesnt mess anthing up, and the Mic keeps working ok. thats really strange it would work right in one USB port and not the other just from an OS update.

yes i am upset as well.. i have a Logitech USB Headset/a-0374a that worked fine with 10.5.1 as a matter of fact its only a week old. once i updated it get static and dropped connection.

also i have an Elgato Turbo .264 and it is also malfunctioning.. looks like it is something with the USB Driver Settings or something to that degree. the elgato is only going 5 - 7 frames per second when it use to goto 80 -83 FPS. they need to get this fixed ASAP.

on the bright side growl actually works im glad about that.. but i need my mic to work for podcasting.

many hours of use and everything still working ok as long as the USB headset is plugged into the USb port by my power connector. Moving back to the other one still messes up things within 5 to 10 minutes.... strange...

running an USB hub off the "broken" one just fine though with an external "time machine" drive hooked to it, as well as my Ipod and an EyeTV... working fine in that port. Maybe they headset would work from that port through a powered hub as well? not sure i feel like testing any of that since its all working for now.

I too have the same problem with a Logitech webcam on my Macbook Pro. The audio records properly for the first few seconds, and then things start to get garbled. This has not been a problem thus far (10.4.x--10.5.1).

In fact, things got substantially worse some time back when I kept getting kernel panics (with USB errors) when I plugged in my webcam into the computer. Strange.

I have been having a similar problem with this headset and my Macbook Pro. It seems to get better when I'm using my laptop on battery, or when I have a USB hub attached to the other port of my computer. Unfortunately, this problem has couses my new copy of MacSpeech Dictate tobe unusable.
The microphone basically produces a noise sound like a buzz, which causes as MacSpeech Dictate to miss understand what I'm dictating.
I hope either MacSpeech or Apple will fix this problem as soon as possible.

Now I am getting Kernel Panics when using MacSpeech Dictate. It seems they are caused by some kind of fault with the audio usb driver for my Plantronics .85 Audio headset.
