Virtual Printer set up

I am having a hard time setting up a virtual printer. I recently had 10.3.9 installed and it works great, but my virtual printer has disappeared.

I find that letter spacing is not handled all that well using the Quark export to pdf function so I prefer to distill from Postscript.

Apple help is partially helpfull in resetting it, but what do I choose in the box marked "Printer Model"??? I just want to make a high quality postscript file to distill and send to any magazine for printing.

Thanks all.

There are a couple of ways. Try this:
In Printer Setup, click ADD. Select IP printing. Enter this bogus but complete IP address: 192.168.10.10. Enter queue name Virtual_Printer. Select Apple Color LaserWriter for model. Finish adding.

Now File>Print in an application. Make sure the Virtual_Printer is the one selected at top. In the Copies & Pages menu, go to Colorsync and make sure Color conversion is Standard and Quartz filter is None. Go to Output Options and check Save as File, File Format postscript. Now go to Presets and click Save AS and save a new preset (call it virtual_ps or something). Now before anything else, actually print something (Preset doesn't become default until you print).

Now you have a virtual ps printer.

Hope this helps.
