Printer List: Utility Icon gray for epson printer

When using the Printer Setup Utility upon selection of a printer (Epson Stylus Photo 820) from the Printer List all the icons in the menu bar are active EXCEPT the Utility Icon which remains gray. Without access to the Utility Icon, ink levels cannot be checked, nozzle heads cannot be cleaned, etc. Currently the printer will not print and I have no way of determining why until I can run the Utility.

So far, I have:

¥ Downloaded and installed the latest drivers from Epson for the Stylus Photo 820.

¥ Deleted and re-entered the printer in Printer Setup Utility.

¥ Downloaded and run Printer Setup Repair from www.fixamac.net.

¥ Run Pilot from Mac OSX Cocktail.

I have tried printing after each of these steps to no avail.

Any thoughts?

Thanks. When I try this, no printers appear on the printer list.

Any other suggestions? Could this have anything to do with Airport network or using the fax software? This AM the phone rang and the fax answered on the 4th ring (supposed to be 10th ring) so I reset it to 10 rings and LOCKED the preference panel only to have it pick up on the 4th ring again. I repeated the correction and it seems to work ok now. The point is something must be causing the erratic behavior and I wonder if the printer issue is somehow related. Can you tell I'm grasping at straws.

Hello,

I am having the exact same issue with an Epson 2000p (although it is connected directly through the USB port) and was just wondering, if the printer shows up in the USB list but not in the Epson USB list, do you think that is a sign of the problem?

I tried to download another driver but couldn't find anything for 10.3.9. It was working fine until yesterday, then all of a sudden it starting spitting out code and the utility was grayed out.

I've repaired permissioned, deleted preferences, tried to add again and again. Any ideas would really be appreciated.

Thanks,

jesse
