smb timeout?

I have a question which I believe is related to timeouts for the osx smb client. I have roughly 100 iMacs which are bound to AD and are pointed at our OD server as well for WGM purposes. When users login with an AD account it will log in fine unless they have a DFS home folder specified in their AD account.

I know OSX does not currently support DFS and i am not trying to use the DFS home folder as i am mapping a separate network folder for them using a login script specified in WGM. Is there anyway to have OSX ignore the home folder specified in AD or somehow set a timeout for the smb client? It is taking upwards of 20 minutes to login when a dfs home folder is specified. If one is not specified, login takes under 5 seconds... This is happening with 10.4.11 and 10.5.1 clients. Here is how i currently have the AD plugin configured. I have tried with /without mobile accounts and also with the UNC path enabled/disabled:

You are bound to Active Directory:
Active Directory Forest = ...
Active Directory Domain = ...
Computer Account = ...

Advanced Options - User Experience
Create mobile account at login = Disabled
Require confirmation = Disabled
Force home to startup disk = Enabled
Use Windows UNC path for home = Enabled
Network protocol to be used = smb:
Default user Shell = /bin/bash

Advanced Options - Mappings
Mapping UID to attribute = not set
Mapping user GID to attribute = not set
Mapping group GID to attribute = not set

Thanks for any help / guidance
