Since installing 10.5.2, I am experiencing problems with connectivity on my iMac (Core 2 Duo, 2Gb, 3GB RAM). The network is based on an AEBN connected to a cable modem. I am using the N only network with the iMac secured by WPA.
Especially when downloading iTunes files, synching with Apple TV 2 or using Airtunes, the network connection drops. I have to use the menubar icon to reconnect to the network which remains listed.
iMac Core 2 Duo, 2Gb GHZ, 3GB RAM,
Mac OS X (10.5.2),
AEBN, Apple TV Take 2
I have the same problem, but with this card: AirPort Extreme (0x168C, 0x86), Firmwareversion: 1.2.2 and a black MacBook connected to an Airport Extreme.
The airport goes on and off and keeps the BMB occupied
Perhaps that worked in your situation, but since upgrading to 10.5.2, I've had constant problems with randomly disconnecting from my wireless 802.11g-only network.
I am having the same issues!!! I just got a Brand New MB and I had no problems with 10.5.1, but as soon as I updated to 10.5.2 I have been having the network drop every 5-20 minuets or so! Apple made me take off all the security on my router (2WIRE DSL Modem/Router) and change my channel to an unused one. I still am having problems! Apple says that its probably because there are so many wireless signals in my area, but I think this is bogus because I never had this issue with 10.5.1 or my PBG4! My roommates (PC users, bless their hearts) have no issues either. And the thing that stinks is that It's near impossible to replicate at the Apple Store. I think I should just take a screen video of my network going in and out, but who knows.
If anyone has any suggestions (besides the ones above) I would be most appreciated.
I'm not sure if they asked you, but did you try deleting the keychain entry for your WPA passphrase or anything in the keychain related to the wireless?
Just a question for you all-- about how many networks do you see? if your not sure google iStumbler and download the program. It give you a good idea.
Im thinking the issue has to do with both interfearence AND the 10.5.2 update. Maybe they tried to make the 10.5.2 update have better connectivity, but at the same time made it too sensitive? Let me know. Thanks!
At times, I see up to 7 as my neighbors kids have an xbox 360 with the wireless controllers. I use the 5Ghz option and wide channels in the airport extreme base station, so I'm not subject to the standard 2.4ghz interference.
Thursday evening I changed my AEBSn (gigabit) from 802.11n only (5 GHz) to 802.11n only (2.4 GHz) and I haven't dropped the connection since. I still think 10.5.2 is at fault because prior to the update I had not dropped my connection when the AEBSn was operating on the 5 GHz band.
I guess for some, droping to 2.4 Ghz is definitely the answer for now, and I'm not sure how the speeds compare. I've never had to drop out of the 5Ghz range and wide channels, so there is a definite problem with some chipsets and 10.5.x.
For some (like me), random disconnection problems are occurring on a G-only network.
Some say drop from N to G... I see the issue with my G-only network. Some say delete certain keychain information... I tried that, and am still seeing the issue. It's purely circumstantial, but I haven't seen a single person complaining about post-10.5.2 wifi disconnection issues who doesn't have the same Broadcom wifi chipset that's been posted before in this thread.
I agree, I think the broadcom chipset is problematic and the Atheros chipset is more reliable; there have been some people with issues with Atheros, but most I've seen here are having issues with the broadcom chipset. I'm hoping Apple concentrates its patching efforts on those chipset.
That's just a fix for transfering files on a LAN using Samba (smb protocol), it will have nothing to do with the wireless radio or the dropouts. Does your machine contain the broadcom chip or the atheros chip?
Sorry to hear that. I have a brand new MacBook too with the same hardware identifier as you have and I did not have any wireless drop-outs before 10.5.2 and I still don't have any drop-outs after 10.5.2. No drop-outs after wake from sleep too. I also have a Mac Mini Core duo 1.83 GHZ with no drop-outs too. I'm using a D-Link DIR-625 router
Here are my settings :
Wireless Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0x14E4, 0x88)
Wireless Card Locale: USA
Wireless Card Firmware Version: Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (4.170.46.3)
D-Link DIR-625
Wireless channel : auto-scan
802.11 mode : Mixed (n, g, b)
Channel width : Auto 20/40 MHZ
Transmission rate :Best (automatic)
Network visibility status : Invisible
Security : WPA personel
As the original post on this thread, I wanted to let all know that I still am suffering from connectivity dropouts when using the N protocol only band (5ghz). Only when using mixed or G only do I get a stable connection. And this problem began after 10.5.2.
I have been on the phone with Apple Support, and they have taken me through the cookbook of resets and re-installs, but still no solution.
