10.5.2 killed airport

I just installed 10.5.2 with seemingly no trouble, but now, while the airport shows the name of my totally wide open network, it will not connect. It just sits there and shows no error but does not connect. I depend on wireless for my access so this is very much not OK. Bob

Same problem here. Westell wireless router, a MacBook running 10.4.11 is on the network just fine but the MacBook that we just updated to 10.5.2 can't get on. It sees the network but can't connect. It was able to connect just fine before the upgrade.

One thing that may be a clue: our network is wide open, like the original poster's, but the Network Diagnostics insists that the network requires a password and won't continue past that step.

I found this on Macfixit.com, has to do with Verizon and the Westel 327W gateway router and another Westel router. You might check your serial numbers and see if you need a firmware update

"Firmware, firmware, firmware! At the risk of being Ballmer-esque: Fimrware, firmware, firmware! (clap hands). Out-of-date firmware can spell disaster for external devices under new iterations of Mac OS X, and 10.5.2 is no exception. One reader was having issues with wireless connectivity that were instantly resolved by updating his Verizon DSL modem's firmware:"

"Being quick to blame Apple for my newly defunct wireless connection after the 10.5.2 update, I called AppleCare, but found that all machines on my wireless network were no longer working. I suggested to the AppleCare tech that I would call Verizon and find out what I did to my modem, which had been working fine before the upgrade. (It wasn't working for my Windows connections either, by this point.) Verizon had me update the firmware on my Westell modem, and Voilá, everything now works fine in both platforms. For the do-it-yourselfers out there with Verizon DSL, the address is http://verizon.net/versalinkupdate. Make sure you have the correct model and subtype, then download the update, and update it via the maintenance tab of the router's homepage. "

here is the Verizon page we need to check your modem when your home

Hope this helps

Not just firmware...after you update the firmware you have to go back into the router (the update changed the interface, by the way; this threw me off since I thought I was logging into my neighbor's network when I saw the new Verizon interface instead of the old Westell one I was expecting) and reset your SSID and security settings. Then restart everything a couple of times.

All the machines on my network, including the 10.5.2 MacBook are back online now.

I have a completely Apple Wireless network and I have this problem in spades. My MacBook Pro 1st edition won't connect at all, the iMac 20 has very slow access, the MacBook is in the same room as the Airport Xtreme base station and the G4 Cube has been moved to a wire connection, which is unfortunately not feasible with the others. My DSL modem is an old NetGear. An Airport Xtreme connects to that and a Snow b/g base station is linked to it in a WDS network. All was fine prior to 10.5.2.

I think the problem is to do with the Airport card seeing multiple networks. Last week I was in the UK at Head office where there is 1 network and all was fine, however, sitting in HK airport on the way home the problem came back, there were 2 networks that I could see and I could not use either although the fan was black. In my apartment I can see about 15 networks and I have the same problem!

My iPhone has no problem anywhere I go!

Apple needs to fix this quickly!

Welcome to the Apple forum.
You have to start a new thread - this one is essentially solved and nobody will read your post.
If you read the previous posts you should know the problem is not with Apple or Leopard, but with the router, so there is nothing for Apple to fix because nothing is broken on Apple's side.
Security in Leopard is tighter, as it should be, and routers that are not completely up-to-date and present security problems need to be updated as well.
Re-read the previous posts, and if you cannot fix your problem, start a new thread. Adding to an already used tread is not considered a good way to get a solution to an issue.
