Aperture on MacBook Pro

Why not download the trial? Only you can say what you think is OK.

I have exactly the same set up as you (with 2 gigs) and find it to be faster then 1.5 with the exception of the retouch tool. It seems to be sluggish but still useful. Get the trial and take it for a spin.

Take the trial for a spin, but I'm guessing that you'll really want to upgrade the ram. I run with MBP with 3GB of RAM, and If I have Photoshop and my mail program open as well, I can tell that the system would be happy to have more. That being said, Ap 2 is running like a top on my machine.

RAM is cheap now. Max out the RAM, a worthy investment.

Amen to that. The files we work with just keep getting bigger and bigger, but luckily hard drive space and memory are both getting cheaper at a similar rate.

Maxing out the RAM will not only make a difference in Aperture, but the performance of your whole system. If you have Photoshop, prepare to be giddy about the improvement.

since it is so cheap, get the max your MBP can hold ... you will thank yourself later ...

I'm running a Santa Rosa MBP with 4 GB of RAM and a 2.4 ghz processor. There is a noticeable performance improvement with 2.0. Everything, and I mean almost everything, is much snappier.

Absolutely max out your RAM. It's cheap and it's the single best investment you can make if you're working with applications like Aperture or Photoshop. Even Leopard will see a boost, and as a result you'll get far fewer beach balls. Best of luck!

Untrue, MBPs take 3 or 4 GB total in 2 slots. Call OWC and discuss your RAM options at 800-275-4576. You list a 2.0 GHz Macbook Pro but AFAIK the only 2.0 GHz was a Macbook, not a Macbook Pro. The 2.0 GHz Macbook can take 3 GB of RAM even though it did not show on Apple's CTO schedule. Call OWC for presales tech info, they are very helpful.
