You can max out the RAM by installing a single 512 MB PC100 SO-DIMM. This is very easy to do by simply removing the keyboard. Current RAM prices from Mac knowledgeable vendors can be found by visiting DealRam.com and/or RamSeeker.com.

You can replace the hard drive with a larger hard drive. This is a rather entailed procedure but can be done if you take your time and are careful.

The last OS supported on that iBook is OS 10.3.9.

Apple doesn't sell OS 10.3 anymore but many on-line vendors do.

While you are still running mac os 9 you should update your firmware as this can only be done from mac os 9, and is required to install more than 192MB ram and 10.3.

you can do 10.4 on one if you have the right specs including a dvd drive. There is some software out there that will help if you don't have a firewire port.

If you are gonna buy all that hardware, go with 10.4.11! It will run on non-firewire clamshells!

I have to disagree about installing Tiger on a 300mhz clamshell. Yes, it's possible, but why would you want to? Tiger is going to run much slower than Panther, and consume an awful lot of your RAM and processor power just to operate. Even on my 466mhz SE Panther runs better than Tiger.

tiger does not run slower on my 366 ibook - 320 mb and 20gig hd - at least not that i can detect. possibly tiger is faster even but hard to say. i had panther for ages which was fine but tiger brought improvments i wouldnt want to be without even if it was slightly slower.

Here are some upgrades I know you can do for a clamshell

1. Upgrade the RAM the Max is 512 MB which is more than enough.
2. Get a Bigger faster HD.
3. OS Upgrade, I would recommend Panther for this Book because it's clock speed is 300 MHz, it cannot run Leopard.
4. A DVD-Rom Drive
