I thought as a new Mac owner, I'd write a little something about my experience so far. Keep in mind, I come from a PC world, and I've been in college twice (one associate's degree, working on my second then getting my bachelor's). I've been using computers heavily since I was 14, and now am going on 25.
I placed my order with my education discount on Wednesday morning, and had it overnighted to me via FedEx. It arrived Thursday afternoon sometime (out doing errands with my fiance and daughter), but when I got home it was waiting on me. I opened it up, turned it on, done the initial setup (less than 10 minutes... for the win) and was staring at a very awkward, yet elegant interface that is only known as Leopard. Since the newest 10.5.2 update was available, I decided to make that my first agenda, followed by the graphics update. I keep up with all the Apple stuff for the most part, and pretty much knew what I was doing... for the most part. Everything worked as I had saw on the Apple website, support forums and all the Keynote addresses presented by Steve himself. Quite simply, it was at this point in time, I was astounded by how simple Mac OS was. Everything is where it says it is. No digging around. Everything is stable, and more importantly... fast. Before I got my Mac, I was using Safari for PC and iTunes, but the PC counterparts seem not as polished. On the MacBook, however, was a new page in history as the ported versions of these apps seem to get 'lost in translation' so to speak, and are extremely sluggish and feel bloated. Overall this experience has been amazing so far, and I expect it to only get better as time progresses.
As for a little background, I've used PCs all my life, it wasn't until my first year in college did I ever see one, yet alone use one. My first degree was in Visual Communications, and at that time the G3 iMac was around, and I've seen those go and the G4 iMacs come in. Until I used any form of Mac, I absolutely hated the product for no reason. Once I used them, I fell in love with them. I've hid my love for the Apple brand behind hatred for several years. I've even claimed to hate iPods due to the nature EVERYONE has one, but I couldn't deny myself inside, the iPod is a great product, always has, and it always will be. Before I purchased my MB, I bought an iPod Shuffle just to give my MB a little love, and to replace my MP3 player my fiance stole from me. I don't need bells and whistles with a MP3 player, just for the simple fact that I have my laptop with me about... let's just say 100% of the time, I don't go anywhere without it (well, my previous laptop, but the MB will be no exception to that rule, as it's easily superior to my retired Lenovo).
I just want to say, thanks Apple for great products. Thanks to everyone on here for the input on questions I've asked. This is in no way a review, but a simple testimony of what kind of experience I've had, and new PC converts, you can expect the same experience as well. (If this was a review though, I'd give this little guy a 20/10.)
