Can users have a different internet access each?

I have a mac mini with three users. Each of them has the same interner user account and the same e-mail address. That means, that each of us is reading other's mail. No privacy problems within this family, but it is getting tedious to find my own mails among others.

Got a different internet account for my son. It works, when I change network settings and click apply. But then these settinga are valid for all three users. I can set the network settings to my numbers, click apply, mine are valid for all users. My son does not have admin password, so he is not allowed to swich between the settings.

I would like to be able to log on, go into internet over PPPoE with one account number and when my son logs on he should be able to use a different account number at the same provider. Is this possible?

Primoz,

One option is to sign up for a .Mac Family Pack account ($179 I think), another is a single .Mac membership and then pay $10 for each e-mail only account. You would set your computer up to access the one internet account but set up the Mail program under each user account on your computer to each individual user's mail.

Another option is to sign up for one of the free internet mail services like yahoo, hotmail and then set-up Mac OS X Mail accordingly.

Also, you can check to see if your internet service provider allows you to set-up multiple e-mail accounts under your one internet account. Again, you will then enter the settings in Mail.

Any help?

I would actually like to set up the yahoo mail account in the Mac OS X Mail, but I do not know how.

My internet service provider is T-Online in Germany, they are offering me two different internet accounts, but whichever I enter in my network settings is valid for all users. I can not enter one internet account for one user and another for the other user. As soon I click on Apply the settings change for all users.

Primoz,

Yes, the networks settings will apply to all users. A better solution would be for T-Online to allow you to create a separate e-mail for each user of your family all under the same account. Then you would just change the Username and Password in each users Mail settings.

Here are the basic server settings for Yahoo! Mail:

Incoming Mail (POP3) Server:
i pop.mail.yahoo.com

Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server:
i smtp.mail.yahoo.com (use authentication, optionally use port 587)

Account Name/Login Name:
i your Yahoo! Mail ID (your email address without the "@yahoo.com")

Email Address:
i your Yahoo! Mail address (e.g., user@yahoo.com)

Password:
i your Yahoo! Mail password
