Schedule Wake up

I'm trying to schedule my iMac 1.8 ghz w/ 10.4.111 to wake up for a back up overnight. I schedule the time in the energy saver panel, but it doesn't wake up. Any suggestions?

B&W G3 & iMac G5, Mac OS X (10.4.11)
