LPD or IIP??

I have a Ricoh MP 161 network printer. I have used the driver on the Ricoh site for Mac OS X.

Two issues here:

1) If I add the printer as protocol LPD, and when I print, I get a printer paused sign and I can nothing about that.

2) If I add the printer as IIP, then it prints but with garbled and lots of blank pages none stop.

Is this a driver issue? Will ever be able to print to this printer??

Looks like postscript is an add-on for that printer, but you don't have the add-on. Unfortunately, since printing on Macs is based on postscript, the high-end manufacturers "assume" Mac users will get the add-on -- the driver is for postscript, but you have a non-postscript printer/copier. (you may have it but it's turned off - check if there's an AUTO setting for personality or processor, etc)

You have generic PCL drivers that should work. HP Laserjet 5L or 6L Gutenprint.

(IPP is internet printing protocol)

Just an update, I use a networked Ricoh Aficio MP C3000 PS at work. I copied the WinXP setup as best I could and figured out it was IP.

I also got the garbled 20 page print jobs when I was trying to print one page until I switched to the Generic PCL 5c Printer - Gutenprint v5.1.3 driver and used HP Jetdirect Socket as the protocol. The other protocols set the printer instantly to "Paused."

My only question is will I get full color/b&w/color support with the Generic driver? Is there another one I should opt to use instead based on the setup I've already described?

In this case, Windows XP proved much easier to setup, as I can print just fine with the actual Ricoh driver within VMWare Fusion WinXP. I guess just another speed bump for using a Mac in a PC Office 🙂

I am trying to print to a Ricoh Aficio 1022 from a Mac Pro running OSX.5.2. I have set up an LPD printer from Print & Fax preferences using the HP Laserjet 4V - Gimp-Print v5.0.0-beta2 driver. This prints perfectly at A4, but when printing A3 documents the printer gives the following message:

"Paper size and type are mismatched.
Select another tray from the following and press continue...
...
Required: 11x17"

If I then select an A3 tray, the print proceeds but with the bottom approx 15mm cut off.

Where does the expectation of 11x17 paper size come from, and how can I change it?

I have tried various other of the drivers, including Generic PCL 5c, but all either don't support A3, or give the same 11x17 result. Please help!
