"Could not deauthorize..."

OK, so this time I remembered the hoop I'm supposed to jump through before upgrading hardware and went to deauthorize my computer, in iTunes 7.5.020, by going to Advanced>Deauthorize Audible Account...

It prompts for User Name and Password. I give it my User Name and Password, with the user name (email address) and password I use to purchase tracks in iTunes.

It responds "Could not deauthorize this computer because either your user name or password are invalid." Only they're absolutely correct.

No, I'm not using my forum user name and password. I'm using the Apple Store or Apple Account user name and password. I can go into account info and change it. I can pretend I've forgotten my password and it emails me a link to update it, which I use, but it still doesn't accept the user name and password I just gave it.

Now what do I do? No, I don't want to just move on and reset it when it reaches a count of 5. They make you wait now, until you've used all five allowed authorizations, before you can reset all. I want to deauthorize this PC.

Thank you. I did email them as you suggested and Jay responded today and pointed out that I was confusing "Deauthorize Audible Account" in the iTunes>Advanced menu with "Deauthorize Computer" in the iTunes>Store menu. I just needed to go to iTunes>Store>Deauthorize Computer, and my iTunes account name and password worked fine to deauthorize my PC. I don't have an Audible Account, so that's why that wasn't working for me.

I'm posting this solution in case a lurker with this issue Searches the error message at a later date. The fix is to open iTunes, and in the Store menu, click Deauthorize Computer, enter your iTunes account name and password, and it will be done. Thanks, Niel, for pointing me in the direction that led to the solution; I appreciate it.
