10.5.2 and Photoshop CS3

After upgrading to Leopard 10.5.2 I now get the error 'Application quit unexpectedly' after I go to close photoshop.

This is my console error log:

The 10.5.2 update has screwed compatibility with Photoshop CS3.

It will no longer work effectively with spaces, as it looses 80% of all open toolboxes and palettes, thus meaning you have to reset your workspace.

Also, the text-input fields in the top most parameters bar (for instance, setting the opacity for a brush) are still completely inoperable when trying to input your own numbers. You must resort to using the slider to set your variables.

Come on Apple, come on Adobe. Full compatibility? Yeah right.

I have consistent and pervasive crashes in Adobe CS3 applications, running Leopard on a dual 2.7GHz Power Mac G5. The longer I work in an application, the more likely it is to crash. Ever since upgrading to Leopard, performance and reliability has been spotty at best for me.

Most crashes, like the one posted have that "KERN PROTECTIONFAILURE" and "EXC_BAD ACCESS (SIGBUS)"

I have not yet heard an adequate explanation of what those exceptions mean by anyone on here.

If anyone who's an engineer, developer, or programmer happens to know, I'd certainly like to hear about it.

My primary crash culprits have been, in no particular order: Adobe CS3 applications, "mdworker", Safari, Mail, the Finder, Suitcase Fusion, and others... with the overwhelming majority of crashes going to "mdworker" (something to do with spotlight indexing?)

Hardware checks out with TechTool Pro and Disk Utility. I've been reparing permissions and have gotten some help from the great Scott Radloff, but am still struggling. Lost more work again today in both Photoshop and GoLive. I'm trying to decide whether to go through an entire reinstall yet again, but this time ZEROING ALL DATA on the boot drive before I install. It's a daunting prospect, and I haven't quite made up my mind about it.

I also have a peculiar issue with my keyboard becoming unresponsive (after a period of time of working with several apps open) when optical media is inserted into my SuperDrive. This has only happened since Leopard.

My suspicion has been that this MIGHT be a PPC vs. Intel issue, and that my hardware simply isn't compatible with Leopard.

According to Adobe, as of January, 2008, all CS3 applications are supposedly compatible with OS X Leopard: http://www.adobe.com/support/products/pdfs/leopardsupport.pdf

If Adobe is "not caught up with Leopard" they are not saying so in their official support documentation.

I think Leopard is not caught up with Leopard. Because at least on my system (which is not Intel-based), Adobe Applications are not the only ones that crash. Apple software like Mail, Safari, and The Finder have similar crashes (i.e. EXC BADACCESS (SIGSEGV)... KERN INVALIDADDRESS).

That's like saying, "go to the Apple Discussions forum and you will see issues insofar as Leopard not being stable."

A couple of people here saying they have no problems is no match for the overwhelming majority of people who say they do. And meanwhile, if it was exclusively third party problems, then Apple Software like Mail and Safari and the Finder wouldn't be crashing, and I have the logs to prove it.

there's a thread on this problem as this link:

http://blogs.adobe.com/indesignchannel/2008/01/indesignleopard_updatevi.html

QUOTED... TC: All of the CS3 apps could potentially have this problem with Leopard, but InDesign's interaction with the file system, in tandem with Version Cue it appears, puts a heavier load on the OS routines in question. Apple changed the NavSvcs code in Leopard and this problem appeared. Only Apple can make the changes necessary to fix the problem. END QUOTE.

Hey guys,

I just encountered this error on a friend's computer. Here's one way to induce it. It takes about five minutes, but so far I have gotten the error to appear on a MacPro Quad 3.0 and a new iMac Duo Core. Open Photoshop and any size canvas. Get your brush tool out and start drawing with it (I used a Wacom tablet though this also crashes with a mouse). I drew some quick flowers and started coloring. In the midst of coloring, the cursor at first stops painting the color, then poof! the cursor stops and the error appears. As this:

There is a severe issue and **** it we should have a fix on this asap. If not, PLEASE for the love of all that is holy provide users the ability to install Tiger on their new systems till Leopard can get its act together.

I was having regular crashes with CS3 also. Usually when I wanted to save my file, so I always ended up losing it.

The problems went away, but I'm not sure which thing fixed it, as I did several things. I unchecked "Enable Version Cue" in the settings. I removed the Stock Pictures app. I completely removed my printer (Epson R300) and all traces of it, and reinstalled from scratch.

I suspect the real fix was the printer reinstall.

Good luck.

Andy,

I don't know if you solved this issue yet. I started having the same issue (the error messages were identical) after I installed the drivers and software for an Epson all in one printer and scanner. It only happened when I exited CS3, and on both my MacPro and MacBook Pro.
I isolated the offending item to the Twain driver for the scanner. In Library/Image Capture/TWAIN Data Sources was the driver for the scanner portion. I am using the printer attached through my Airport extreem, and thus don't use the scanner. I deleted the driver, and the issue is now gone. I finally noticed the scanner was showing up in my File/Import menu, and thats what made me drill into where the scanner drivers were.

Have you added anything like a scanner, or one of the new all in one printers. If so I would check out the drivers.

Good luck.

You're a genius!

I've been going through reams of posts at different forums for days... Tried different proposed solutions. Nothing worked. Then, I came across your post and realized I did install an epson all in one scanner driver a few days ago. I deleted it and now the problem is gone. **** not having a scanner now but great not having the annoying warning anymore! Will try to find a solution for getting my scanner working without breaking the system again!

Cheers
