You might have to change the port number in your mail advanced account preferences. When you first set up the account, the default port number is wrong. Check the help on POP accounts on yahoo.com. It should give you the correct port numbers. Then change the account ports in Mail. That should fix your problems.

Hope this helps...
D.

P.S. I have had to do this with all of my mail accounts that go through yahoo.

I'm having a problem too. I set up my Yahoo account, and changed all the port settings to those that Yahoo has specified, but every time I try to connect it keeps telling me my password was rejected. I've double checked to make sure the password is correct in my Preferences and on the Keychain Access page, but it still continues to reject my password.

Select your account under Mail Preferences/Accounts Tab, click on the pop-up selector for your *Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP):* and select *Edit Server List...*. Does it show something similar to this?
(Note: outgoing/incoming servers could be different than mine, but the principal is the same)

If it doesn't, change your setup to 'mimic' mine, ie. password, login name, password etc. and see what happens.

If it does the next two things to try are:

1. Delete com.apple.mail.plist from /Users/yourshortname/Library/Preferences.
1a. Setup your yahoo POP account again, changing the default ports to the ports yahoo supplies.

If that didn't work:

2. Login to your account at yahoo.com and change your account password. Verify that you can access webmail with new password information. In Mail, change the password to the new password and see if your outgoing server verifies your account.

Are you getting your emails but not being able to send email? This might be silly but I've noticed that twice in your posts, you refer to it as an "smpt server". I'm just wondering when you've typed the server in you used "smpt" instead of the correct spelling smtp. The only reason I'm posting this is I'm coming up blank on any other cause that might be Apple related. I have multiple yahoo accounts ranging from free accounts, small business accounts and paid email accounts and I'm not having any problems with mine. (aside from the port issues). Post back and I'll try to think of something else.

Lol smtp sorry thats my bad spelling.

Well After i deleted my Mail plist file in my preferences. And loaded Mail back up it comes up with a box to setup account. So i enter my email and password. It then tries to connect, then it says "trying to log into mail server "pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk" failed. This server may required an additional fee for Pop access"

So I continue any way and enter other info like "imcoming mail server" "user name" and "password" using "SSL" then enter my outgoing mail server details and using authertication. Then it tries to connect again but still get a error message stating "email and password are inncorect"

SO I continue into mail any way and change the ports via preferences.

Then try sending a "test" email but failing again saying " Password was rejected by smtp etc etc"

Now im stuck, lol!

Is this by any chance a Free Yahoo! account. I think [this|http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20071113165925AAUfNpF] is the issue now. This is what tipped me off to this.
This server may required an additional fee for Pop access

I misspoke (miswritten) in my previous post that I had a free account. This happened to be an old email setup that got transferred to Yahoo! sometime in the past. Yahoo! upgraded me to Yahoo! Mail Plus for free. (I do have a current free account, but it is only used as a push email account to my iPhone.)

I am completely out of ideas now. I don't know of anything else it could be. If your account is a Yahoo! Mail Plus account and these problems are occurring, I would contact Yahoo!. I really don't think there is a problem in Mail.app for OS X.
