Windows Crashing While Running Games

I've searched the forums high and low and still have not found the answer to my problem. I'm currently running Windows XP Professional SP2 Via bootcamp on my macbook pro 15 inch 2.4 ghz computer...only when i run games (Counter-Strike 1.6 & Team Fortress 2) windows seems to crash randomly. ive tried reformatting my entire computer and reinstalled windows xp..still no luck..what could be the problem with this? a game like counter-strike 1.6 is pretty much out of date and the engine is pretty simple..so i dont understand why it would crash? .. please someone help me out..i would greatly appreciate it..because im ready to shell out money for a new PC so that i can play my games.. 😟 😟 😟

I have the same problem, but with other games. Tried C&C 3. Crisys. But the computer crashes. I have to turn it off with the power button. I really want this to work. I know I haven't bought this computer for gameing, but if i know that the possibility is there i want it to work. Have tried with Vista 86x and XP pro SP2. Hope there will be a update or something else.

My suspicion is the graphics driver but it could also be that you are playing a very old game on XP. Have you checked with the gaming company that you have all the right patches installed to make the game work?

If that does not work: How familiar are you with Windows debugging 😉
You can check the event log in Windows which shows you more hints in why certain things will just crash. I would not guarantee you that the game in question works on another PC.

hi there. Thanks for your answer. I tried Crisys and C&C 3. That or new games. But the weird thing is that the games crashes the system like after 5 min off playing. I can try with other drivers for the graphic card. Some tip are that when you install xp only have mouse and keyboard in the computer. Then the same thing when you play. But thats weird. Have tried without success. Hope there will be a update or a tutorial how to fix this.

I've been having this problem as well with boot camp, leopard, and win xp. Plenty of different games and the result has been the same. Crash. It's a full reboot crash too. I've tried drwatson to catch it, set windows to snag any system errors it could, nada...
I called my apple support and was told that they don't support the use of windows on apple hardware. hrmph....
So far I've tried laptop fans, upped the fan speed internally with Input Remapper and all to no avail. It doesn't appear to be heat related. I am thinking there is a boot camp driver bug at this point. If anybody has a cure, please shout out.

I also have the same problem with TF2. Windows locks up, the screen freezes and the sound loops - no way to stop it without manually hitting the power button. Suffice to say, it's very annoying. I'm using NVIDIA 7300 gt 128mb with the latest drivers installed, so it's not that. I'm guessing it's an error with bootcamp.

I've also reduced the graphic settings, it is NOT the power of my computer or GFX card!

Can we get a fix ASAP?

I have just updated my mac book pro to the newest version. I get random BSODs in windows while playing games now. My old mac book pro never did this. I can't seem to go an hour without a BSOD. There are a lot of other bugs I noticed with my new mbp/boot camp 2.0. Check out my other post and see if these issues have arrised with you. It would be great help if you let me know 🙂

I've been having this problem as well. The only time I go on windows is to play an mmorpg. I used to think it was the computer overheating, because the crashing stopped once I aimed a fan at the computer, but lately its been starting again. About 15 minutes of playing and then the entire computer shuts down. I have noticed the fans getting louder, but I have a laptop fan set up. Does the general consensus seem to be a boot camp problem, or something specific?

I also am having problems with 3D games crashing - it will freeze and start making a clicking sound. Can't cntl-alt-del to get out either, have to power-off and reboot. Sometimes it might work fine for an hour, other times a few minutes. I've locked up just about every game I've tried: Doom 3, Quake 4, Prey, UT3, System Shock 2, Dungeon Siege 2.

This problem began after I updated to Bootcamp 2.1 and SP3 in Windows XP Pro.

I've tried reinstalling video drivers and Bootcamp drivers to no avail.

My problem is loosely related to this. I have a new MBP running Vista under bootcamp. I do also want to run games under Windows. I haven't done this yet but I do notice that my Internet Explorer crashes for no reason. This is not a big deal since I don;t normally use IE but I am wondering if this is a symptom of instability that I might encounter running games.

I get a similar issue. I can't run Bioshock at all and Command and Conquer Tiberan Sun crashes a lot (which gets very annoying). The crash causes the sound to loop, although it does produce an internal error message as well. I made a post about my problems yesterday... so far nobody seems to have any ideas of how to fix this...

I'm pretty convinced that it's nothing to do with dust or anything like that. I am using Windows XP with SP2 as well... that is the thing that seems constant here as most of you seem to be using that too... maybe the problem is a compatibility problem with XP? I can't help but get the feeling that Vista might run a lot of these games fine... has anyone had any crashes like this using Vista?

On the other hand Half Life 2 runs flawlessly (Mission 2 runs really fast with my Nvidia Gforce 8800! Why can't other games... :()

Would Vista fix this? I don't mind buying Vista as long as I can play Bioshock 😀. Most people that have got Bioshock working on a Mac are using Vista...

It may be the type of Mac. I'm running an Old Mac Pro and getting issues, however someone else I know has got Bioshock working on a new Mac Pro using XP... is it likely to be the type of Mac?
