The iTunes and iTV (v2) are 'paired' I can stream photos/music/movies from my itunes library to the iTV but I can NOT 'sync' ?? When I click AppleTV under devices there is only two tabs (General and Photos) unlike the 8 or so i see in most screen shots (the host is a Windows box running latest iTunes).
When you click Apple TV under devices in ITunes under summary there are two choices. If you choose custom sync instead of automatic sync you will see all of the tabs. (At least on the Mac you do!) At the bottom right it says "sync". Click that to start the process of moving things to the Apple TV. Once you click it if you click again later to resync it will remove what it has already put on the Apple TV. If you close ITunes and use Apple TV it will show whatever content it has already synced, then when you restart ITunes it will continue the syncing process and while it is open your Apple TV can show all of it by streaming what it has not yet synced.
This isn't my issue .. I wish i could screen picture this for you .. When I click Apple TV in my devices list (my only device) The 'summary' tab shows Name, Capacity, Software Version (2.0), Serial Number and thats it. There are no sync options. At the bottom there is a greyed out Apply and cancel button. If i rlight click on Apple TV the only option is Turn off streaming which if I do that the Apple TV completly vanishes.
Did I miss a step on setting up the partnership ? Is there a way to only "stream" without "syncing" that i've missed ? Help ! Thanks !
Can't be absolutely sure because v 2.0 is so new to me, I can't see what you can see because I am already syncing, so what options do you have if you select settings/computers.
I think the problem is that you have it set to connect to a shared library, as opposed to a computer. There are two options "Connect to iTunes", and "Add Shared iTunes Library" You have to do the connect to iTunes options, to get all the syncing tabs. I went in to the preferences on iTunes and selected Apple TV and removed it from the list. Then I went into the Settings:Computers section, and selected "Connect to iTunes". I then was able to access all the syncing tabs for the Apple TV. Hope this helps somebody out.
I'm using v2 of Apple TV software and have similar problem. Under options/computer, there is no longer any option to connect to a computer using the sync method - only the option to attach to another iTunes library for streaming. So I can't sync to iTunes at all.
I'm having the same problem. I don't really like the new AppleTV interface. I think the old one was much easier to understand and work with. I hope we can all learn how to fix this issue.
My wife had the exact same problem and here's what we did to fix it.
* Remove Apple TV by going into iTunes Preferences from your computer.
* Go to Computers under settings on the Apple TV itself and unpair the iTunes connection. This basically removes the content that was on the Apple TV before, unfortunately.
* From the Apple TV, connect to iTunes, as the person above mentioned. Enter the confirmation code. All of the tabs comes back in iTunes for synching.
Trichert, I presume you achieved an initial sync, but are looking to manually force a sync on demand? Right-click the AppleTV device entry to see the Sync command.
