File Sharing to Tiger from Leopard hangs. It worked Tiger to Tiger.
I have a machine I use primarily as a file server via AFP (AppleTalk) on my Ethernet LAN which has successfully networked for many years with many OS X upgrades. I just upgraded the file server OS to Leopard. It seems that it retained all my preferences and Networking settings, etc. however I cannot connect from another workstation which is running Tiger.
I hit Command+K, type in: afp://fileserver.local and it just hangs and hangs.
Has anyone else had any issues?
OWC Dual 1.6 GHz PPC G4,
Mac OS X (10.5.1),
2 GB SDRAM, 1x250 GB HDD, 3x300 GB RAID 0
I figured it out. If you are simply using AppleTalk AFP, do this...
After you have your File Sharing turned ON and configured, etc. you must goto:
System Preferences > Security > Firewall. You have 3 choices to allow incoming traffic:
1. Allow all incoming connections
2. Allow only essential services
3. Set access for specific services and applications
I previously had #2 selected. I have now changed it to #3 and all works fine! When you enable File Sharing, Leopard will add "File Sharing (AFP) to the allowed services in the box below. That's it - just double-check your FIrewall settings after you've enabled File Sharing!
